Posted: Updated:

Sioux Falls police have made an arrest following an overnight burglary.

It happened just after 1:15 a.m., Sunday, when Taco John's employee called 9-1-1 to report a suspicious man leaving Auction Pawn and Gun.

The witness saw the man crouching by some vehicles in the Subaru of Sioux Falls lot located next to the pawn shop.  At the same time, Metro Communications also received an alarm activation from the pawn shop at about the same time. Upon arrival officers located a subject in the Subaru lot that matched the description that had been given by the Taco Johns Employee. The subject fled on foot to the south of the dealership. A perimeter was set up by responding officers and the suspect was located nearby.

Police arrested the man after a short chase on foot around West 21st Street and Spring Avenue. He was identified as Juan Carlos Aleman of Sioux Falls.

The subsequent investigation showed that Aleman had entered the pawn shop via a roof air vent. Once inside he stole some power hand tools and was in the process of trying to steal one of the cars off the Subaru lot when he was confronted by the responding officers. The officers found a discarded and damaged key lock box from one of the dealerships vehicles in a back yard where Aleman had ran. They also discovered one of the car dealerships vehicles to be damaged.

Aleman was lodged for 3rd Degree Burglary, 1st Degree Intentional Damage to Property, Attempted Grand Theft, Tampering with a Motor Vehicle, and Fleeing Police.
