LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Southwest Minnesota State University volleyball team moved up to the No. 6 ranking in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Top 25 Poll. The Mustangs swept The University of Mary and Minot State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference this past weekend to extend their winning streak to eight.
Concordia-St. Paul remained the No. 1 team in the ranking for the second consecutive week with its 45 first-place votes and 1,196 total votes. Minnesota Duluth (1,138) held onto the second ranking, while Tampa (1,104) and Central Missouri (1,063) also idled in the rankings this week. Central Missouri was the only other team to receive first place votes as the Mules earned three in this week's edition of the poll. BYU-Hawai'i (960) rounded out the top five.
SMSU has now been ranked in the AVCA Top 25 for 98 consecutive weeks, dating back to Sept. 5, 2006.
The Mustangs (12-3, 7-0 NSIC) will continue Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action at home this weekend with matches versus Winona State and Upper Iowa.
