Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week: Tanna Waltman

Posted: Updated:

Tonight's Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week is Tanna Waltman, a senior at Parkston High School.

Tanna has a perfect 4.0 grade point average and when we sat down with her, she told us one of the secrets to her success.

Tanna Waltman told us she gets one, 45 minute study hall every day and it's a good thing because she needs the time. She rattled off an impressive list when we asked her about the classes she is taking. "Human Anatomy and Physiology, Chem 2, Calculus, Research and Writing and I am also taking an online Medical Terminology class."

And those classes are all geared towards a future career in pharmacy, so the Chemistry and Medical Terminology classes are important for her.
And her Biology teacher, Donna Deinert, says Tanna is a star student who is drawn to every tough Science class Parkston offers. "She's a great student. She takes rigorous science classes. As many tough classes as she can. She asks all the why questions on everything. She's very hard working."

Tanna's grade point average, 4.0 is as good as it gets. and when we asked Tanna one of the reasons she does so well, she says it's because she is at a smaller sized school. Her largest class is about 22 students. "And then the smaller classes....5....8 people....so its a lot of one on one time with your teacher...I feel you can learn with more one on one time."

Tanna says she is looking at SDSU's Pharmacy program. She recently visited the campus and liked it a lot!

For being named our Scholar of the Week, Tanna will receive a $100 scholarship from Southeastern Electric Cooperative, which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
