Many Americans got caught up in the budget battle crossfire between Republicans and Democrats.
And for those who were without pay or benefits, they might even say they were held hostage by two parties.
Some say they've just pushed the problem down the road to January.
KSFY Political Analyst Vernon Brown says nothing was really gained and that it was just a waste of time and money.
Some believe the 11th hour resolution to re-open the government was nothing more than a political chess game to see who wins.
And with a federal government shutdown lasting 16 days, with an estimated cost of up to 24 billion, many would say it's the American people who lost.
Also, we could be looking at a shutdown repeat in mid-January, along with the possibility of another default and running out of money again by February 7th.
So with this temporary solution in place, Brown said many in Congress, including our own South Dakota congressional delegates, have developed a tin ear.
"They all three, like to talk about the influence they have in Washington D.C., but where was that South Dakota common sense, I think South Dakota lost in that, they had an opportunity to be a voice of reason, some South Dakota common sense, and we didn't see that leadership come through, instead we heard the usual rhetoric from the parties, and the usual blame game," Brown said.
Brown also said, to be fair, many Americans have lost their faith and interest in many of their lawmakers in Washington D.C..
