Letcher man, 61, behind bars after high-speed chase
A Letcher, South Dakota man is behind bars in Davison County, Sunday night, after he led officers on a high-speed chase reaching speeds over 150 miles per hour.
Police say the driver is 61 year-old Bruce Pueppke.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol tells KSFY News it started around 4:00 p.m. when a trooper spotted Pueppke, the driver of a Porsche 911 sports car, driving approximately 105 mph through Hanson County along I-90. Once the officer caught up in an attempt to pull him over, Pueppke sped up. Troopers said he exited the interstate and headed through Davison County near the city of Mitchell on rural roads where he could reach speeds of 150+ miles per hour.
The Highway Patrol says Pueppke then reached a trailer along 247th Street/Piano Road, north of Mitchell, left his car and attempted to hide from authorities.
Troopers waited for backup, searched the property where Pueppke stopped, found him hiding inside the locked trailer and took him into custody over an hour later.
Pueppke faces speeding charges as well as felony fleeing and eluding.
Officers with the Highway Patrol, Sheriff Deputies with Davison, Hanson and Sanborn Counties assisted along with the Game Fish and Parks Department.
