Volunteers Rake the Town in Sioux Falls

Posted: Updated:

The rustle of leaves is playing on repeat. Filling bag after bag, these volunteers are warming a woman's heart on this crisp fall day.

"Oh, you can't imagine how happy I am," said Mary Peters.

Peters struggled to get around these days, so she's incredibly thankful for the workers on wheels Rake the Town volunteers.

"They just pile it all up and somebody comes and picks it all up. It's wonderful," she said.

Added volunteer Karl Towns, "It's something that everybody wants. Everybody wants that Better Homes and Garden yard, but not everyone can do it themselves so that's what we're here for to really help them out and make their yard beautiful."

This particular team of worker bees is from Wells Fargo. They know their efforts are two-fold.

"They get a fresh spirit going into the winter knowing that there is someone out there that cares," said volunteer Andrew Wubben.

Added Towns, "Just the satisfaction of helping our fellow community members, seeing their faces when it's done and just knowing that they appreciate that much."

Looking at this vast yard virtually leaf free, everyone here is feeling a real sense of accomplishment.
