If you need some extra cash this holiday season, you might consider taking a part-time or seasonal job.
And the good news for job seekers in our area is there about 3,000 opportunities available.
But, it's bad news for employers who are having a difficult time finding the right people to fill those openings.
There are full-time, part time and seasonal positions available.
We visited the office of Midco Connections which operates a call center for different businesses.
It's one of many Sioux Falls businesses facing the problem of filling seasonal jobs this time of year.
Sioux Falls businesses need 3,000 new employees to fill these empty chairs and open positions.
Midco Connections Hiring Specialist Mike Harte said "it's great for the community to have a low unemployment rate and more opportunities for them. It makes my job a little bit more difficult, but that's not a problem though."
Before these people in training got hired, Midco Connections had 240 seasonal positions available, but now it still has 90 positions it needs to fill.
"We're a contact center so we have people calling in to place orders for products and if we don't have enough people there to help support all the people calling in to buy stuff, then those people will have to wait longer for help, and the longer people wait, the less satisfied they are with their overall shopping experience," Harte said.
And while job seekers compete to get hired, many Sioux Falls businesses are in competition for workers.
"Each year, there's a lot of companies doing season hiring, but there's also some new companies, new to Sioux Falls, that have been doing a lot of hiring in the last couple months that definitely impacts us in what we do as well," Harte said.
Finding workers can be difficult now, but filling these open seats could become even more difficult in the future.
"With how fast these large companies are coming to Sioux Falls, and how much hiring their doing, we need more people here, is what it's going to come down to. In five or ten years, we might not have the population to handle the workforce need," Harte said.
Harte tells us many job seekers also want a job that's the right fit for them.
Midco Connections operates 24/7 so it offers flexible hours and schedules.
