Police, troopers to treat kids on Halloween night

Posted: Updated:

Sioux Falls Police Officers and South Dakota Highway Patrol Troopers will hand out candy to children who are trick or treating during the Third Annual Stickers and Snickers Event.

Over the last two years, children have been treated by law enforcement officers handing out sticker badges and candy. The officers will be in Sioux Falls neighborhoods on Halloween night from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m.

"This event has been a great way for officers to have positive contact with families," Police Chief Doug Barthel said. "The event also provides an increased presence in neighborhoods during Halloween and gives motorists a visible reminder to drive safely on a night when many children are present."

All officers will have candy provided by Lewis Drug and stickers to hand out, but police calls will still take priority.
