An Iowa man died in a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 212 about five miles east of Watertown on Oct. 29, the South Dakota Department of Public Safety said.
Miguel Angel Ruedas, 56, of Perry, Iowa, was eastbound driving a 2001 Ford Econoline van. Ruedas lost control on the ice-covered roadway and entered the north ditch, where the vehicle rolled. The driver and two passengers were wearing seatbelts and remained in the vehicle. Two passengers were not wearing seatbelts and were thrown from the vehicle.
All occupants were taken to a Watertown hospital, where Juan Antonio Flores, 42, of Perry, Iowa, was pronounced dead. He was one of the two passengers not wearing a seatbelt.
No further information was immediately available.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Codington County Sheriff's Office and Watertown Fire and Emergency Medical Services assisted.
