Posted: Updated:

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - NCAA officials announced that the City of Sioux Falls has been chosen as a finalist to potentially host multiple national championships over the next four academic years. Championships in which Sioux Falls has been chosen as a finalist include: Division II (DII) Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field, DII Men's Basketball, DII Women's Basketball, DII Women's Volleyball, and DII Wrestling.

"We were confident that our bids were strong financially, demonstrated a commitment to organization and featured state-of-the-art facilities," said Wes Hall, Executive Director of the Sioux Falls Sports Authority. "We know, without a doubt, that each of the five championships for which we have been designated as a finalist will be extremely successful in Sioux Falls."

Sioux Falls Sports Authority submitted 19 NCAA Championship bids in late September, covering a wide range of Division I and Division II events from 2015 to 2018. The University of Sioux Falls Sports Complex and Lillibridge Track, the Sanford Pentagon, and the Denny Sanford Premier Center are the facilities that will hold events if Sioux Falls is selected as a host city.

A total of 1,948 bids were received by the NCAA as part of the current site selection effort. The final selection of host cities will be announced via webcast at NCAA.com on December 11.

The Sioux Falls Sports Authority was formed in 2006 by community leaders to recruit major sporting events to the Sioux Falls area. The organization attracts international, national, regional and state sporting events by operating, leasing, enhancing or owning sports facilities in the Sioux Falls area. It is run by a board of directors made up of 15 community members, the executive director, and the project director
