A 24 year old Dupree man was killed last Wednesday near Fort Thompson after leading authorities on a brief car chase.
On Monday, we learned the name of the man shot by law enforcement was John Curtis "JC" Garreaux.
Following the death of JC Garreaux, Jason Todd Garreau held police in a 9 hour standoff.
Tonight, the 27 year old faces six felony gun-related charges.
Jason Todd Garreau was the subject of a search by tribal, state and federal authorities following Wednesday's fatal shooting near Fort Thompson. That shooting left John Curtis "JC" Garreaux dead. Police say Jason Garreau barricaded himself inside a home in the Pierre Trailer Court with a high-powered rifle Thursday afternoon. A standoff continued for nearly nine hours during which a police officer was shot and wounded. The officer was treated at a hospital and released. Jason Garreau was arrested just after midnight Friday and made an initial court appearance Saturday in federal court.
KSFY ran a background check on Jason Todd Garreau. His record includes a simple assault and driving with a suspended license.
KSFY also ran a check on"JC" Garreaux who has a long criminal history dating back to 2007."JC" Garreaux has many charges in Hughes and Pennington counties. His record includes carrying a handgun without a permit, simple assault, petty theft, burglary, and robbery. He was also charged with nearly a dozen drug and alcohol violations within the past year.
Federal law enforcement will not yet confirm the relationship between
"JC" Garreaux and Jason Todd Garreau but, people close to the situation have told us they are cousins.
