Brookings police are without their leader this week.

Police Chief Jeff Miller was suspended without pay until further notice Friday morning, Brookings City Manager Jeff Weldon said.

Weldon cited "personnel reasons" following an off-duty incident as the cause for suspension, but wouldn't share any more information on Miller's actions.

The integrity of the Brookings Police Department is still intact, Weldon said, with Assistant Police Chief Dave Erickson filling in until an investigation into Miller's conduct is completed.

Miller has been with the Brookings Police Department since 1985, acting as chief since July 2009.
