After getting off to a bit of a slow start, the Wolves controlled much of the game. NSU trailed 25-15 with 10:39 to go in the first half but then responded with a huge 24-4 run and led 39-29 with 2:34 to go in the opening half. It was a lead that Northern wouldn't relinquish.
In the second half, Northern led by as many as 13 on two separate occasions, the last coming with 16:13 to play and Northern up 54-41. The Griffons refused to go away however and slowly chipped away at the NSU lead.
Missouri Western cut the NSU lead down to 72-70 with 5:04 to go in the game but the Wolves responded with seven straight points off of four Bachand free-throws and Warwick's sixth three of the game. The closest Western would get after that would be 84-78 with 42 seconds remaining.
Northern had great ball movement on offense Sunday as the Wolves recorded 16 assists on 28 made field goals. Mitch White tied a career-high with four assists in the game while Jared Hannigan led the team with five helpers on the day.
As a team, the Wolves shot nearly 54 percent from the field while holding the Griffons to a 40 percent mark. It was a very clean game as both teams recorded just six turnovers in the game. Northern held a 42-32 advantage in the paint and also had nine more bench points than Western did with a 37-28 advantage.
The Wolves will play their home opener Tuesday when Jamestown comes to Wachs Arena for a 7 p.m. tip.
