One dead, one hospitalized in north west Sioux Falls shooting

Posted: Updated:

One person is dead and one is hospitalized after a shooting this afternoon in north west Sioux Falls, police spokesman Sam Clemens said.

The shooting at the 4200 block of N. Alaska Ave. was reported to Metro Communications at 2:47 p.m.

Clemens said police found one person dead inside the home and another with life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital, but police didn't have an update on their condition.

At this time, police didn't have any other information to provide, Clemens said.

A neighbor in the area picking up her children saw 12 cop cars, a fire truck and an ambulance respond to the residence. She said an older gentleman was wheeled out of the home, and that police asked her if she had seen anyone in a white shirt and blue jeans.

Tri-Valley Superintendent Mike Lodmel said students who live in the Green Hills addition would be bussed to the intersection of Alaska Avenue and Peacock Drive, where police would meet students and escort them home safely.

We have a reporter at the scene and will provide you with more updates on this developing story as they are available.
