Two in custody from Dell Rapids in connection with fatal Sioux Falls shooting

Posted: Updated:

After a morning-long search that put schools and neighbors on alert in the small town, two suspects were arrested in Dell Rapids. Police believe the individuals have a connection to the fatal shooting in north west Sioux Falls Monday.

Police will provide more information on this case today at 3:30 p.m.

A 20-year-old man was killed and his 48-year-old father was injured in the shooting at their home Monday afternoon.

Authorities said this was not a random incident, and that the 20-year-old victim knew the suspects.

Police responded to the shooting around 3 p.m. Monday. In the home at the 4200 block of N. Alaska Avenue, officers found the young man dead and his father with what police initially called life-threatening injuries.

The father's condition today was reportedly stable, according to public information officer Sam Clemens.

Parents in the Dell Rapids District received a voicemail saying the schools were under a 'secured perimeter' Tuesday morning at the request of law enforcement, but this was lifted around 11:30 a.m.
