Robbery motive behind Sioux Falls shooting

Posted: Updated:

Two teens allegedly responsible for the death of a Sioux Falls man were attempting to rob the victim.

Court documents say Trevor Kruthoff, 17, and Brian David Anderson, 18, both of Watertown, traveled to Sioux Falls Monday to steal $100,000 from Jordan LeBeau, 20, of Sioux Falls.

LeBeau was shot and killed during the incident. Authorities say his 48-year-old father, Jason LeBeau, was shot and wounded when he tried to help his son.

Court papers say Jason went to the basement of his home North Alaska Avenue to find his son restrained by duct tape, being beaten by two men. Jason attempted to fight the men.

The documents also say at some point during the confrontation, Anderson told Kruthoff to "shoot him." Kruthoff later admitted to his mother he did so.

When police arrived at the home, they found Jason had been shot in the arm, while another bullet was later found in his lung. Jordan's body was in the laundry room.

The two teenagers, who were arrested Tuesday in Watertown, face murder, attempted murder, assault, burglary and robbery charges. It was not clear if Anderson or Kruthoff had an attorney.

Two 20-year-olds from Dell Rapids were arrested accessory to the robbery charges, burglary and aggravated assault. Police spokesman Sam Clemens says the two were not in the home at the time of the killing.
