Motive learned in Sioux Falls shooting

Posted: Updated:

Court documents released Wednesday said the suspects believed there was $100,000 in Jordan LeBeau's home.

Officer Sam Clemens said, "I think it's pretty obvious that this is drug related. What we found inside the house also backs this up. This house was targeted it wasn't a random act, they purposely went to this house."

18-year-old Brian David Anderson and 17-year-old Trevor James Kruthoff were both arrested yesterday in Watertown.

They were charged with murder for the death of Jordan LeBeau and attempted murder for shooting LeBeau's father, 48-year-old Jason LeBeau.

"We recovered the gun, I don't know if that's necessarily the one that was used in the crime. There's testing that needs to be done to find that out, but there was a gun that was found inside the house and we believe that was the one that was used, but we certainly can't confirm that yet." Officer Clemens continued.

20-year-olds Kevin James Rice and Douglas Peter Scholten were in Minnehaha County Court Wednesday.

The prosecutor said they are a significant danger to the community.

Officer Clemens explained, "They all knew each other, I don't know if they were friends or just acquaintances but they all knew each other.

The criminal complaint states during Trevor Kruthoff's recorded interview, his mother asked Kruthoff if he shot Jordan LeBeau to which he replied, "Yes. I shot him."

Although four arrests have been made, the investigation remains ongoing.

"There's people that we're looking for to talk to, I think at this point we've identified the main players in this homicide." Officer Clemens said.
