Working construction out in this cold would be a horrible thing.
For the workers building the new Sioux Falls Events Center...this wintry blast would be absolute misery. But it's not...because they thought ahead....and worked ahead.
All these construction workers are toiling away at the site of the new Sioux Falls Events Center; as the blustery winds blow and the freezing temperatures settle in these guys....are completely fine! they're working in 70 degree comfort.
"It's great to be able to have an enclosed building here. Water tight." Jason Miranowski is the construction executive with Mortenson Construction that is overseeing this phase of Events Xenter construction. Not only did the workers here get the bowl of the Events Center enclosed before the cold stuff moved in, but the Events Center heating system is also completed and operating right now...which is why these guys are toasty warm. "If you're working in cold weather, really guys can only stand out in the cold for so long and they'll have to take a break. And heat up and defrost their limbs if you will."
And there is another side benefit of all this: Miranowski says warm construction workers are happy construction workers...which means they're getting more work done. A look around in here and you can see that a lot of progress is being made. "Here in a warmer environment they can really keep their productivity levels up...because they're not having to stop and deal with all the winter clothing that they have."
It was close though: the Events Center heating system was finished and brought on line in October.
