U.S. Senate candidate signs audit petition

Posted: Updated:

A state representative and candidate for U.S. Senate says South Dakotans deserve answers.

Republican Stace Nelson of Fulton has signed a petition calling for a special legislative session to authorize an audit of South Dakota's troubled EB-5 investment program.

Nelson says South Dakotans need to know where their taxpayer dollars are going.

"Unfortunately, we're looking at a major scandal that everyone is embarrassed about. We're all concerned about (it). The best way to get at the root of the problem is to take an impartial look at what actually transpired and having this audited is the most logical course of action," said Nelson.

He says this matter must be addressed in the first few days of the 2014 legislative session. He believes there are enough representatives from both parties that want answers.
