Service Clubs

In this week's Sioux Falls Business Journal Report, we look at traditional service clubs that are trying to reinvent themselves to appeal to a younger generation. Clubs such as Rotary, the Lions, the Optimists and the Shriners have been mainstays of the business community for years. But they're all facing the same challenge: how to keep attracting new members. At the same time networking groups specifically for young professionals are finding success.  The cover story looks at what the younger business person is looking for in a club. Some say it's flexibility. Others say it's about who can help them grow their own business. And still others are attracting to the mission of an organization.

Downtown Living Boom

The boom in downtown living isn't slowing down. A new project across the street from Sioux Falls' city hall is filling up with residents. The Dakota Lofts are 40 loft apartments and potential condominiums. The building just opened but it's already about three-quarters full.  Some of the units have two decks. And there are a couple furnished apartments which are already rented. This is the latest of several projects coming up downtown. There are lofts under construction on Phillips Avenue and plans for townhouses near the Sunshine Foods store.

You can get a look inside the Dakota Lofts at or at a public open house Thursday starting at 4:30 p.m.
