Tonight's Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week is Lisa Smith of Kimball High School.
Lisa is ranked first in her class and has an unbelievable grade point average of 4.21. We went to Kimball and spend some time with Lisa to see how she does....what she does.
Lisa Smith starts her day in a way that few students would want to: pre-calculus. After that, her class schedule really doesn't go downhill in any way. "After that I have government, I really enjoy that class. And we have a half-semester of economics, then I move to Ag 4 and then I have Spanish, English 4 and Physics."
And keep in mind, Lisa doesn't have any study halls. So her work load is pretty heavy. On top of that, Lisa has responsibilities other than her traditional school work that she keeps up with. "I'm in FFA....I am the president of our FFA chapter....I was the drum major in the marching band. And I am a student council representative."
All of Lisa's hard work leads a conclusion that is inescapable. We'll let school counselor Levi Reindl do the talking on this one. "Lisa is very highly motivated student. She sets her goals and she is very persistent in attaining them. She is a hard worker."
Which led us to ask Lisa this question...with a heavy class load and no study halls....how is she able to pull off a 4.21 grade point average? "I use every second of my free time in class, if we get done with an assignment early I'm working on the next thing to do."
And what's the next thing for Lisa Smith? "I plan on graduating and going to SDSU and majoring in agriculture economics."
For being named our Scholar of the Week, Lisa will receive a $100 scholarship from Central Electric Cooperative Association....which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
