Blankets warm giver's and receiver's hearts

These black garbage bags contain something that is going to make these Jane Addams grade schoolers smile.

"The students that come to Jane Addams are new to winter. They've never experienced winter," said middle school teacher Erica Bell.

Tie blanket stacked upon tie blanket, all hand-crafted by middle schoolers hoping to warm these kiddos during the winter's chill.

"It's about caring. It's about community, and taking care of each other," said Bell.

After waiting patiently for a blanket, the kids picked a favorite, wrapped themselves up, and happily sat down to listen to a book.

"They don't know very much English, so we decided to help them by reading books," said middle schooler Caitlin Nelson.

"In my class I saw kids who were so open to us. They were so excited to tell us what they are learning, and just excited to talk," said Bell.

With a cozy new blanket in tow, the holidays are off to a wonderful start for these youngsters. The givers and receivers equally just as happy.
