New TSA plan to improve screening time at Sioux Falls Regional Airport

Posted: Updated:

A big change security change was announced this morning at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport.
In the past, changes involving security ended up adding more time to your travel experience but with this change, you may get some of that time back.

It's fun to go somewhere once you reach your destination, but sometimes it's the "getting there" that gets people a little grumpy.
So imagine having the experience that Sioux Falls traveler Bill Goehring had when he went through a TSA checkpoint earlier today. "It was great. I didn't have to take my shoes off. I didn't have to take my computer out of my bag. those are big pluses as far as I'm concerned."

If it sounds too good to be true, it's not.
In fact, the TSA director for the state of South Dakota, Mark Heisey, came to the Sioux Falls Regional Airport to make the announcement himself. "We are moving away from a one size fits all approach to security and replacing it with intelligence driven, risk based approach."

 It's called TSA Precheck.
And if you're a frequent flier, it will make your life a lot easier.
In fact, if you're enrolled in an airline's frequent flier program, you're probably already in the Precheck system.

"Passenger screening can be a bit daunting and uncertain for a lot of folks." Dan Letellier is the executive director of the Sioux Falls Regional Airport and tells us although the airport's current screening area is on the small side, this change will help move more travelers through....a lot faster. "We're very excited about this enhancement to the travelers experience here."

Now if you're not a frequent flier, but would still like to qualify for this program, you can submit yourself for approval by going to the web site globalentry.gov.
