Christmas Break activities around Sioux Falls

Posted: Updated:

Thursday is Sioux Falls School District's last day of class before Christmas Break. Many other schools around the KSFY viewing area are also letting out for Christmas break by Friday afternoon.

If you're wondering what to do with your kids over the break, Sioux Falls has many indoor and outdoor activities for the entire family.

Sioux Falls Outdoor Ice Rinks will be open starting Friday December 20th. The Indoor Ice and Recreation Center on West 51st Street will also have public open skating hours throughout Christmas Break.

Great Bear Ski Park will be open from 9:00am-10:00pm December 20th-January 1st. The park will be closed Christmas Day.

The entire family can enjoy Christmas at the Western Mall's light show through January first and Winter Wonderland at Falls Park through January 5th.

During the day, Siouxland Libraries will be hosting holiday break activities like nutcracker dance parties, Christmas crafts, stories and movies.

Sioux Falls community centers will also have special open gym and play group hours and activities during Christmas break.

There's also some great indoor family fun at the Great Plains Zoo and the Sertoma Butterfly House.

The Washington Pavilion is hosting holiday movies; its also your last chance to bring the family to the Kirby Science Discovery Center to see Sue, the South Dakota T-Rex. The Sue exhibit is on display until January 5th.

"I just encourage you to get out this holiday season weather it is at the Pavilion or somewhere else and explore and have fun and have the stay-cations that so many people talk about right here in your hometown," said Erica Lacey, the Director of the Science Discovery Center.
