Tonight's Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week is Mikayla Bonnet from Langford Area High School. Mikayla has a 3.97 grade point average....in addition to playing basketball and volleyball.
Before lunch, every day, Mikayla Bonnet tackles British Literature, Calculus and Government. "After lunch I have Business Law, Physics and Pre-Calc."
And it is the last of those classes that Mikayla says are very important to her right now....because those classes will allow her to take the next big step necessary to go after her dream. "Calculus, Pre-Calc.....definitely cause I'm probably going to go into the medical field so I might need a little bit of that."
And if history is any indication, Mikayla is going to do just fine in those classes. She has a 3.97 grade point average and she says she has it because of habits she developed when she was a freshman. "I kind of buckled down and just did my homework and used my time wisely. And studied. When I needed to to make myself feel comfortable for a test."
And that buckle down work ethic not only gets results but it gets noticed as well. Patrick Sayler is one of Mikayla's math teachers. "Pretty hard working student. Very dedicated. Pretty highly motivated. She has some high aspirations. So it kind of drives her in the classroom."
Right now, Mikayla is looking at two schools: trinity international in Illinois and SDSU in Brookings. She tells us, both schools can help her obtain her ultimate goal. "I am going to go for Pre-Med/ Biology. That is going to be quite a bit of work. And then after that I hope to go to medical school."
For being named our "Scholar of the Week", Mikayla will receive a $100 scholarship from Lake Region Electric Association, which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
