Train derails west of Rapid City in Black Hawk

Posted: Updated:

BLACK HAWK, S.D. (AP) - A support bridge over a creek west of Rapid City near Black Hawk has collapsed and derailed a train.

Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Twite says the train was on the track parallel to Sturgis Road Thursday when the bridge broke.

Multiple cars on the Dakota, Minnesota, and Eastern Railroad train are off the track.

Twite says the rail line and law enforcement authorities are trying to clear Peaceful Pines Road in Black Hawk.

Interstate 90's Exit 52 into Black Hawk is also closed. Anyone entering Black Hawk must use Exit 48 or Exit 55. I-90 traffic isn't impacted.

Twite says he's not aware of any injuries.
