Parents of murdered Pierre teen want suspect tried as adult
The parents of a murdered Pierre teenager say the alleged shooter should be tried as an adult.
Family and friends gathered Wednesday night for a candlelight vigil in Pierre for Dalton Williams. His parents, Sage and Harry Briggs, told KSFY News the alleged shooter, Braiden McCahren, was old enough to know better than to play with guns, or point them at people. He's been charged with Williams' murder, after allegedly shooting him with a shotgun. Williams' parents told us they feel there's been miscommunication about what led up to the shooting.
"The paintball day was a year prior to and Dalton was not there. It had nothing to do with Dalton at all. It was about a paintball gun going off in a pickup and shooting a computer. That's what the paintball deal was. It wasn't a fight that they had had or anything like that," Harry Briggs said. "And Dalton was not involved," Sage Briggs said.
McCahren's trial was supposed to begin next month, but it's been postponed as a judge considers whether to move the case back to juvenile court.
