Rash of counterfeit money probed in Sioux Falls

Posted: Updated:

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - The Secret Service is investigating a rash of counterfeit bills in Sioux Falls.

Police say there have been 26 reports of counterfeit money since Black Friday.  A total of 38 bogus bills have been passed at stores, gas stations and restaurants. Most have been fake $20 bills.

Police spokesman Sam Clemens says the holiday season isn't necessarily a contributing factor. He says rashes of counterfeit bills seem to happen at random, and usually "in a flurry."
