"All of the middle schools in the Sioux Falls community are involved. Patrick Henry, O'Gorman, Whittier, Axtell Park, and Memorial all participate against one another," said Kerri DeGraff from Feeding South Dakota.
For the past week the middle schools have been collecting food and money for Feeding South Dakota.
"We raised about 8,000 items. A little over 8,000 items and a little over $2,000 in funds as well to donate," said Amanda Zell, a teacher at Memorial Middle School.
With a boost from a pallet jack, some hearty helpers, and a truck the food is off.
"All of this food will go down to our Sioux Falls food pantry, and it will get distributed right out to hungry individuals in need in our community," said DeGraff.
It's quite a collection by some young giving hearts.
"It's just been really cool to see kids have a part in community service," said Zell.
"It's really neat to see when some of the youngest in the community understand the need to give back and help others," said DeGraff. "And, you see it first hand in food drives like this one."
