Volga man creates forest of Christmas trees for a good cause

Posted: Updated:

For the past five years, Chris Schonewill has taken Christmas to the extreme, and this year, he's pushing the envelope even further.

The 22-year-old Volga man has decorated around 40 unique Christmas trees.

"Usually if I have back-to-back days off, it only takes two days to get everything up, but with my work schedule, it probably took two weeks this year in the basement, and then another five days upstairs to get everything put together," said Chris.

"As long as he doesn't overwhelm the house, we said 'go for it,'" said Chris's mom and helper Lorraine.

The Schonewill's are opening their home for tours. Admission is free, but they ask for a monetary or food donation for the Brookings Food Pantry.

Visitors can come through on Sundays 2:00-9:00 pm and on Wednesdays (except for Christmas Day) 5:00-9:00. They're located at 302 Washington Road in Volga. Call ahead at (605) 627-9161.
