Spending in full force this weekend before Christmas

Posted: Updated:

After a major retailer left nearly 40 million credit card accounts at risk this week, many are being a little more careful about their spending.

With less than four days to shop, people at the Empire Mall are certainly no exception.

"It's been really busy today. We've had some great traffic," said Bri Paulson, Assistant Manager at Buckle.

So the question is -- are more consumers using cash now more than credit cards?

Paulson says she hasn't seen a decrease of those using credit cards.

"We haven't really seen it hit much here. It's been a lot of things that people have been talking around about the credit card issue but I haven't really noticed anything really affecting us here," said Paulson.

Today, shoppers paying in cash is harder to come by. Many say they don't plan to change how they pay.

"It does concern me about credit card fraud and identity theft but at the same time I'm still going to use my credit cards because we don't really carry cash around that much anymore," said Deann Golz, shopper.

"I use my credit card all the time because I try to get my points. I have a credit card that gives you award points so I use that. I'm not worried about the credit cards," said Darlene Golz, shopper.
