Tonight's Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week is Kayla Breske from Waubay High School.
She has a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
We were able to spend an afternoon with Kayla and we found out she has some big plans for the next couple of years.
Kayla Breske says one reason she has been able to excel in her studies at Waubay High School is because she has had good teachers who know her well.....and know she likes to be presented with tough assignments so she can unravel them and figure them out. "They see I like a challenge and I am really determined. When I find something I can't do I put my mind to it and I like to get it done."
It's not just Kayla's perfect 4.0 that gets her attention, but also everything she does outside of class. Laura Maag is Kayla's English teacher. "Because she is an excellent student. She puts forth a great effort in all of her classes. Beyond that she is in very many extracurricular activities."
Those activities include basketball, volleyball, national honor society, oral interp and theater. Her present is busy and the future will be too. "I plan on attending SDSU next year...majoring in Nursing."
And while Kayla is confident she will do well in her classwork at SDSU, she is also very upfront in saying it is going to be a whole new experience. "It will definitely be an adjustment cause I won't know my teachers or my professors...going into it...it will be a much different setting obviously but I think if I put my mind to it and I work really hard."
For being named our Scholar of the Week, Kayla will receive a $100 scholarship from Lake Region Electric Association, which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
