Former Stampede star defenseman Conor Allen has been recalled by the New York Rangers and could make his NHL debut tomorrow (Sunday) when the Rangers host the Tampa Bay Lightning at 6 PM (Central Time). Should Allen play in the game he would become the 20th former Stampede player to skate in an NHL game.
After signing with New York last spring, Allen attended the Rangers' preseason camp this past fall before being assigned to Hartford. He has 13 points (5g, 8a) in 29 games with the Wolf Pack in his rookie campaign to lead the squad's defensemen in goals, while ranking third among Hartford's blueliners in points.
Allen has seven points in his last seven games with the Wolf Pack (2g, 5a) and recently posted a two-point effort in a 3-1 win over Bridgeport.
Prior to signing with the Rangers, Allen appeared in 99 games over three years in a UMass uniform, totaling 39 points on 14 goals and 25 assists. The Chicago, Ill. native spent the 2009-10 season with the Stampede, recording 15 points on 7 goals and 8 assists and 69 penalty minutes while leading the Herd to a third place finish in the West and a spot in the Clark Cup Playoffs.
Should Allen play on Sunday he would join Stu Bickel (2006-07) as the second former Stampede star to wear a Rangers jersey.
The Stampede return to action tonight when they travel to Kearney, Neb. to face the Tri-City Storm at 7:05 PM. The Herd host Fargo tomorrow night at 6:05 PM.
