Man accused of dragging Box Elder officer arrested

Posted: Updated:

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Pennington County deputies have arrested a man accused of dragging a Box Elder police officer across a yard.
The sheriff's office says its officers arrested 24-year-old John Root Jr. Friday afternoon in Rapid City after using a Taser on him when he tried to get away.
They also arrested 30-year-old Joshua Crites on an outstanding warrant for grand theft.
The sheriff's office says a deputy shot at both men Wednesday when officers tried to arrest Root for violating parole on drug charges and he drove away with an officer caught in the door.
Officer Nick Rosser was treated for injuries at a hospital and released.
The sheriff's office says Root wasn't injured in the shooting but did need stitches in his head from resisting arrest.
