A fire broke out a little after 3:00a.m. Monday morning on the 500 block of Bahnson Avenue.
Sioux Falls Fire & Rescue said the deck on the back of the house was fully engulfed in flames.
No injuries were reported at the fire and fire crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to the inside of the home.
But along with battling the early morning blaze, fire crews were also battling the dangerously cold temperatures.
"Fighting fire in the upper Midwest like this is a tough deal, the temperatures are extreme and it compounds the difficulty of this job quite a bit... such as ice, freezing cold, equipment malfunctions, obviously these trucks are full of water and its thirty below zero and it can cause problems," said Guy Burdick with Sioux Falls Fire and Rescue.
In these conditions, firefighters say slowing down and switching out crews to warm up is extremely important.
