A state prison inmate who failed to return to a work release center last month is back in custody.
Courtney Mitchell turned herself into police in Sioux Falls December 30 and made an initial court appearance the next day on a second-degree escape charge. She has since been returned to the South Dakota Women's Prison in Pierre.
Mitchell failed to return to the Minnehaha County Correction Center in Sioux Falls following a shift at her work release job on December 27. The state contracts with MCC to house female inmates on work release status in Sioux Falls.
