Nearly 1,600 spend part of night without power

It was an especially dark night for some residents in northwest Iowa and southeastern South Dakota.

Nearly 1,600 households spent part of Monday night without power.

Strong winds downed a power line near Inwood, Iowa Monday evening, causing an outage that extended to other nearby communities, including Alcester and Fairview.

According to MidAmerican Energy, power was restored to all South Dakota Customers by around 10:00 Monday night.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Department said all power had been restored to the rest of the region by 11:40 p.m. that night.
