Rachel Lee Coleman changes her plea to guilty

Rachel Lee Coleman, 26, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer and DUI 4th. As part of the plea agreement, her prison sentence was capped at 42.5 years. The plea agreement was accepted by Judge Joseph Neiles.

Coleman previously entered a not guilty plea. She will be sentenced in mid to late March.

Coleman is accused of striking trooper Andrew Steen with her vehicle, back in October 2012. Gunshots were fired in the incident. Coleman was shot and hospitalized for gunshot wounds.

Trooper Steen was injured after he was allegedly run over by Coleman. Steen suffered a critical head injury and broken ankle.

Both Lincoln County State's Attorney Tom Wollman and Minnehaha County State's Attorney Aaron McGowan lead the prosecution, as the alleged crimes occurred in both counties.
