Windy weather impacting travelers in the Dakotas

Posted: Updated:

Strong winds and snow are making travel difficult in parts of the Dakotas.

The National Weather Service is cautioning residents about  blowing snow in central and eastern North Dakota that's reducing visibilities to a half mile or less. Parts of South Dakota are getting even worse weather.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the central and northern Black Hills. Forecasters say two-day snow totals could reach a foot in some areas.

Much of the rest of South Dakota is dealing with strong winds and blowing snow. The Summit area in northeastern South Dakota is seeing blizzard-like conditions, with visibility down to a few feet, while a burn ban is in place in Yankton County due to the wind.
