"Lewis & Clark" to benefit from $27 million federal allocation

Posted: Updated:

Progress to report tonight involving the Lewis and Clark Regional Water System.

Its funding has been drastically cut in recent years to just enough money to keep offices open and the system in operation.
Now it stands to share a portion of $27 million set aside by Congress specifically for rural water systems.

Congresswoman Kristi Noem tells us, "Lewis and Clark and that project came out very well under the bill and has the potential to receive millions of more dollars which would help get that project completed."

While Senator Tim Johnson tells KSFY, "I'm pleased that we're able to add funding for rural water and will continue making the case for Lewis & Clark to the administration as it considers how to allocate the extra funding."

While we know Lewis and Clark will receive part of the $27 million allocation, we don't know how much it will actually end up receiving just yet. The Bureau of Reclamation will determine that amount.
