Water in Madison is still not safe to use as of Thursday morning, according to mayor Ray Lindsay.
People in Madison were asked not to use tap water Wednesday night after the roof over a well at the water treatment center collapsed. City officials say this led to water contamination.
Crews worked throughout the night to pump water out of the well so they can begin cleaning the system. Lindsay said they anticipate finishing pumping by Thursday afternoon.
Lindsay also said he believes Madison's water should be drinkable by Friday night, and water may be suitable for showering or laundry as soon as Thursday evening.
Madison Central and St. Thomas schools are canceled Thursday because of the contamination.
