Tonight's Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week really goes above and beyond in the classroom.
Carly Goodhart is a senior at Sisseton High School and she currently has a 4.07 grade point average.
A perfect GPA is 4.0 so we wanted to find out why Carly's is above perfect.
Carly Goodhart is very good at her studies. And she has a lot on her plate right now. "Economics, Concert Choir, Pre-Calculus...Sports Medicine, Anatomy and Physiology...." And add to that list English and Government. And a lot of those classes are advanced placement...which are college level classes..and as a result they have a higher grading rate...which explains why Carly is at a 4.07 grade point average. "I work for hours on homework every night and even though I am gone from school for a lot of activities and different organizations I always make sure to keep up with my school work and stay ahead."
Those extra activities include Speech, Student Government, Knowledge Bowl, Choir, Cheerleading, Track and Dance. Carly's English teacher Cindy Hofland says Carly is something special. "Carly is the kind of student that every teacher really enjoys having in a classroom. She is enthusiastic about learning. She is conscientious. She is the kind of person that takes things further than maybe a typical student."
With Carly already taking college classes, it is no surprise that she is already narrowing down her choices both for college and what she wants to do as a career. "I plan to either go to South Dakota State or Augustana and get my degree in nursing. From that I would like to be a Physicians Assistant."
For being named our Scholar of the Week, Carly will receive a $100 scholarship from Whetstone Valley Electric Cooperative, which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
