Multiple-vehicle crashes on Interstates 90 and 29

Posted: Updated:

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota Highway Patrol troopers and other emergency responders are on the scene Thursday afternoon of multiple-vehicle crashes on both Interstates 90 and 29.

A crash that ultimately involved more than 20 vehicles on Interstate 90 near Humboldt blocked the westbound lanes of that road. Officials closed those lanes to allow troopers, Department of Transportation crews and other responders to work at the scene and to make the scene safer for motorists involved in the crash or traveling in the area.

Authorities will make an announcement when that stretch of Interstate 90 is open and safe to travel again.

Officers also responded Thursday afternoon to a multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 29 in the Tea area. As many as a dozen vehicles were involved in that incident.

Initial reports indicate some injuries but no fatalities in the crashes. No further details are immediately available.

Authorities urge motorists to avoid those areas and to travel with care, paying attention to changing road and weather conditions and wearing seatbelts at all times. They also recommend that motorists avoid travel in the area of the crashes if at all possible.
