Brandon conserves water while well is repaired

Posted: Updated:

In order to keep Brandon Steakhouse sizzling, water is a necessity.

"800,000 gallons of water we go through a day in Brandon. That's a lot of water," said owner Bob Miller.

Right now well number six in southeast Brandon is being repaired. Corrosion on a pipe caused a leak.

"Not too concerned. Talking with folks that were down here to fix it, it should be done in two days. And, we can operate on the wells that we have for that time," said city administrator Byron Read.

Conserving water mid-week isn't too tough for the Steakhouse said Miller, but over the weekend would be a different story.

"Keep an eye on everything. I think it's voluntary. I don't want it to go mandatory because we do have to keep the restaurant open. They say it might be a little brown water, but don't worry about that," said Miller.

Added Read, "It's certainly safe to drink. It's safe to bathe in. It's safe to consume. The only problem you may have is doing laundry. Typically, it may discolor your laundry a little bit."

With those things in mind, Miller will keep going about his business. He'll be a little extra mindful as his town makes some repairs.

"We still got to keep sanitary too. We still got to soak some things, pre wash, but we're just making sure all of our loads are full," said Miller. "Make sure the dishwasher is full when we put items in it."
