No charges for mother who forgot toddler in car

Posted: Updated:

The mother who left her toddler in a car while she was at work will not face any charges, the Union County State's Attorney said today.

Anna Salas, 31, of South Sioux City, Neb., forgot to drop her 2-year-old off at daycare on January 7. When the child's father went to daycare that evening, he found their daughter was not there.

Salas realized her mistake and she immediately took her child to Mercy Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.

The law enforcement review found that the girl was appropriately dressed for the winter weather and hospital staff said she showed no signs of distress.

The Department of Human Services found no issues during a family assessment.

The state also took Salas' personal and criminal history into account, and through their investigation, they found she did not act with any criminal intent to abuse her child.
