Dakotas hit with blizzard, dangerous cold

Posted: Updated:

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Residents of North Dakota and South Dakota are dealing dangerous cold and blowing snow that's causing whiteout conditions.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Adam Jones in Bismarck says it's the most widespread blizzard in the Dakotas this winter and the most recent in a wave of heavy storms to hit the region in the past few weeks.

Jones says wind gusts of up to 60 mph were hammering much of North Dakota and the northern portion of South Dakota on Sunday.

Forecasters say the wind chill will be dropping to as low as 60 degrees below zero Sunday night over much of the Dakotas, creating life-threatening conditions.
