Sisseton teen killed in I-29 crash

A Sisseton teenager died Tuesday of injuries received in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 29 near Watertown on Sunday.

Hayley Ray Wegleitner, 18, was a back-seat passenger in a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix traveling south and driven by Scott Allen York, 28, of Britton. Also traveling south was Able Vernon Luna, 34, of Lennox, in a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup.

Luna's pickup struck the back of York's car causing the car to enter the median. Luna was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. York received minor injuries. Wegleitner sustained head trauma from the crash and died Tuesday.

Also traveling with York was Amber Elizabeth Sommers, 19, of Eden, who received minor injuries in the crash. York, Sommers and Wegleitner were not wearing seatbelts.

No further information is immediately available.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Codington County Sheriff's Office assisted.
