Tonight's Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week is David Weidler from Howard High School.
David currently has a tough class schedule but while daunting it does not slow him down one bit.
He currently has a 4.17 grade point average and says keeping it is a matter of keeping focus.
On a daily basis, David Weidler is tackling classes which include AP Calculus, Chemistry and Physics.
He says working on all of those subjects at the same time, while not easy, is manageable because he has specific goals when it comes to academics. "You have to set time aside to study for your classes. Take time to study for your tests. Do well. Pretty much if you want to be the best you take the time to do it."
David is able to find the time to succeed, partly, because of the smaller size of the Howard High School. He says it allows for more individual attention from teachers and more time for him to work on his assignments. "I really like being at a school this size. It's big enough that you get the opportunities that you want and you know everyone."
Another part of David's success, according to his math teacher Alan Wiese, involves the content of David's character. He says David has a lot of integrity. "If I left the room and there was a test laying there with the answers on it, he wouldn't look at it."
David wants to major in computer science when he goes to college. Because of his stellar record....he has a couple of choices. "I am thinking about the School of Mines and Technology, Dakota State, the University of Nebraska and the University of Minnesota."
For being named our Scholar of the Week, David will receive a $100 scholarship from Central Electric Cooperative Association...which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
