Two Mitchell students face charges for knives

Posted: Updated:

MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) - Two students at Mitchell High School have been suspended and arrested this month for bringing pocket knives to school.

Superintendent Joe Graves said there was no apparent threat involved in either case. But he says its standard procedure to suspend a student who brings a knife to school.

The male students both are 18, and both face a misdemeanor charge of possessing a dangerous weapon in school. The maximum punishment is a year in jail and a $2,000 fine.

Graves says times have changed. He says when he was a kid, a lot of students carried knives.
