SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana soccer head coach Brandon Barkus announced that Augustana will welcome 10 student-athletes to join the Vikings in the fall of 2014.
Courtney Almendinger (Sioux Falls, S.D.), Sam Arnold (Council Bluffs, Iowa), Brooke Bleeker (Sergeant Bluff, Iowa), Hannah Keirstead (Savage, Minn.), Ellie Knowles (Chaska, Minn.), Taylor Machacek (Sioux Falls, S.D.), Mackenzie Main (West Des Moines, Iowa), Kaylie Miller (Muscatine, Iowa), Kallie Nordberg (Big Lake, Minn.), Samantha Tymkowicz (Sioux City, Iowa) will all continue their academic and athletic careers at Augustana College next year.
"Within the Augustana soccer program, our goal is to recruit the best players who fit within the culture and standard of our program," Barkus said. "We know we have found the perfect fit with these young women as they represent everything we hope to find in our recruits...talent, leadership, competitive spirit and an undying passion to be the very best.
"We are thrilled to have them join the already-established, incredible women of Augustana Soccer," Barkus said. "Our coaching staff is here to build champions, as well as build empowered people and we know that both of these can happen in their time with Augustana.
"Further, we would like to thank the excellent coaches who prepared these women to compete at the collegiate level."
The 10 signees will add speed, athleticism, and a passion for the game that will continue to build on a successful 2013 season.
The Vikings are coming off a 10-8-1 season last year, in which they set or nearly set a slew of offensive team records. Augustana's 39 goals scored last season were the second most in team history. The Vikings did set new team records with 113 points and 35 assists last season.
Located in Sioux Falls, S.D., Augustana College is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
